Holotype. Female,WA, Nedlands, Perth, - 31.9820°S, 115.8070°E; 14m asl, 8.vi.1932, HW leg. [ SAMA 22648– 01 View Materials ]. GoogleMaps

Paratypes. Male and 2 females; female WA, Denmark, 6.vii.1932, - 34.9749°S, 117.3561°E, 11m asl, HW leg [ SAMA 22648–02 View Materials ]. Both slides identified as E. marginata by Womersley on the slides GoogleMaps .

Description. Size. Length 1.616 mm (n= 4).

Colour. Likely to be bluish with darker blue bands posteriorly on each tergite, but faded in time as mounted in Hoyer, possibly also cleared. At 1000x some scattered pigment granules can be seen along the body arranged more densely lateral and posteriorly on segments.

Head. Eight eyes, G and H smaller in size than E and F. Antennae at 758 µm, 2.4 times head length. Terminal vesicle simple on Ant IV. Sensory organ of Ant III with central sensilla bent with 6 µm long ( Fig. 19A View FIGURE 19 ). Labral papillae multispinate. External process of papilla E not reaching to the papilla tip. Labium with MREL 1 L 2 chaetae, all ciliated and R 2/3 of M.

Thorax and abdomen. Ratio of Abd IV/III=3.2 (n=4). Tibiotarsus without differentiated chaetae, with exception of the presence of the smooth terminal chaetae on legs 3, characteristic for the genus. Unguis with 4 teeth, paired two at 50% from base, first unpaired teeth at 75 % from the base, dorsal tooth basal, lateral a little below the paired ones. Unguiculus acuminated, narrow, external lamella of leg 3 serrate. Tenent hair clavate, longer than unguis. Trochanteral organ with 8–10 chaetae. Manubrial plate with 4 chaetae and 2 pseudopores. Mucro bidentate, both teeth of similar size with mucronal basal spine. Mucro of 15 micrometers and smooth distal portion of dens twice the length mucro.

Macrochaetotaxy. Simplified Mc formula: 3,1,0,3,2/2,4/2,4/1,2,1/0,3,4,2,2. Head chaetotaxy ( Fig. 19B View FIGURE 19 ) Mc An 2, An 3a1, An 3 and A 5. M 1, M 2, M 3 and M 4 present as Mc. In sutural row S 0, S 2, S 3, S 4i, S 4, S 5i, S 5. Ps 2 and Ps 5 present. Thoracic chaetotaxy of Th II ( Fig. 19C View FIGURE 19 ) T1 area with Mc m 1 and m 2, m 2i, T2 area with Mc a 5, m 4, m 4i, and m 5 (a 5’ present as mesochaeta). Sensillary formula usual for Entomobrya . The bothriotricha on Abd IV in position T 2 and T 4 (0110).

Remarks. Four species of Canary Islands and one European have similar simplified formula chaetotaxy on Th II, Abd II, and Abd III (2,4/2,4/1,2,1) ( Jordana & Baquero, 2005): E. airami Baquero & Jordana, 2018 , E. arvensis, Latzel, 1918 , E. atteneri, Baquero & Jordana, 2018 , E. guacimarae Baquero & Jordana, 2018 and E. palmensis Jordana & Baquero, 2010 . Entomobrya arvensis is the only one not polychaetose on Abd IV with only 14 central Mc (0,0,3,2,2). Entomobrya airami and E. palmensis have smooth labral papillae and Area 6 of Abd IV with 2 and 3 Mc respectively, different to E. herberti sp. nov. (it has multi-spinate papilla and no Mc on A6 on Abd IV). Entomobrya guacimarae has labral papilla and external unguiculus smooth, as 4,3 Mc on H1 and H2 on the head. While they are ciliated on E. herberti and it has 3,1 Mc on H1 and H2 areas of the head. Entomobrya atteneri is different in having 3, 2(3) Mc on H1 and H2 area of the head, and 0,4,3,2,2 Mc on A6-A10 on Abd IV while E. herberti has 3,4,2,2 Mc on this segment ( Table 6 View TABLE 6 ). The colour also differs.

Etymology. Named for Herbert Womersley who collected all the specimens.
