Comments.

The number of specimens is not mentioned by Vieillot, but the descriptions of a male, female and first year birds indicate multiple specimens. The four Baudin expedition birds are the only specimens that had entered the registration books around 1854 (MNHN Laboratory, ZMO-GalOis 3). The other three specimens (NMW + NMS) were also examined by Vieillot. The type locality is erroneous ( îles Moluques), and therefore corrected and restricted to: West-Timor, near Kupang Bay (article 76a.2.A (ICZN 1999)). Vieillot named this species Fringilla guttata or ‘spotted/speckled’ ( Jobling 2017).
