sp. nov.

Macroglenes incisiclypeatus sp. nov.

(Fig. 32)

Etymology. The species is named for the incised clypeal margin, which is reported for the first time in the genus Macroglenes .

Diagnosis. Body black, without metallic reflections; clypeal margin incised (Fig. 32); all funicular segments anelliform, without sensilla (cf. Fig. 8); mesosoma slightly convex dorsally; pecten regular, occupying about 1/2 length of hind tibia; basal cell with 3–4 hairs near basal vein; forewing with narrow bare area between R and apical margin; ovipositor sheaths short, hardly protruding; hypopygium reaching from about 3/4 length of gaster to almost its tip (cf. Fig. 31).

Description. Female.

Body length. 1–1.25 mm.

Color. Body black, without metallic reflections. Coxae black, femora and tibiae brown, the extremities of tibiae slightly paler. Tarsi yellowish, with distal segment brown. Antenna entirely brown. Eye light red. Tegula and venation brown, wings hyaline.

Head. In frontal view about as high as wide. Clypeus (Fig. 32) medially incised (careful examination needed, clypeal margin better seen from below). Eye height about 1.5X length. Malar space about 0.4X as long as eye height. Scape shorter than eye height, length about 5.1–5.6X width; combined length of pedicel and flagellum distinctly less than breadth of head; pedicel in lateral view about twice as long as broad; combined length of F1–F5 distinctly shorter than pedicel; all funicular segments transverse, anelliform, without sensilla, slightly and progressively increasing in size; F5 width about 2–2.5X length; clava length 2.3–2.6X width, distinctly longer than combined length of pedicel plus F1–F5.

Mesosoma. Slightly convex dorsally, especially scutellum which is slightly arched. Mesosoma length about 1.4–1.5X width. Forewing length about 2.1–2.3X width, rather sparsely pilose; speculum extending to R; venation: M about 5.5–6.2X as long as R, P slightly shorter than R; stigma small, lower edge rounded; basal cell with 3–4 hairs near basal vein; forewing with narrow glabrous area on upper side beyond R extending towards apical margin, the glabrous area partially effaced by hairs on ventral side. Pecten regular, occupying about 1/2 length of hind tibia.

Gaster. About 1.2–1.3X as long as mesosoma, length about 2.2–2.3X width. Ovipositor sheaths about 1/3 as long as the hind tibia. Hypopygium reaching from about 3/4 length of gaster to almost its tip.

Male. Unknown.

Comments. A very distinct species, together with M. zdeneki sp. nov., being the only known Macroglenes having the clypeal margin incised. I hesitate in creating a new subgenus for these two species because no other characters seem to differ in respect to other species of Macroglenes . Distribution. Japan.
