Redescription. Body dark brown to pitchy, anterior margin of supra-antennal ridge reddish, elytra testaceous; maxillary palpi, first 4 antennomeres, and legs brownish. Length [average] male, 4.6 mm; female, 3.7 mm.

Male. Head ( Fig. 22A) sub-pentagonal, widest at eyes. Disc densely punctate, sparsely pubescent. Clypeus subquadrangular, as long as 1/4 head length, lightly depressed in anterior part, surface glabrous, coriaceous, and almost impunctate; anterior margin truncate or emarginate in some cases, and a little beyond anterior margin of supra-antennal ridges. Epistomal suture with lateral portions broadly incurved and running backward to level of anterior margin of eyes. Vertex densely punctate, slightly convex, posterior part well-demarcated from neck by occipital suture; mid-longitudinal suture present. Eyes with coarse facets, longer than temples, and protruding laterally. Temples punctate, lightly dilated. Occipital suture with middle portion present; nuchal ridge and dorsal basal ridge present.

Mandible ( Fig. 22C) stout and lightly curved; two denticles on inner edge, one near middle and one near apex. Antenna (type I) equal to head and pronotum together, with apical antennomere shorter than two preceding together.

Pronotum transverse, broadest at near anterior 1/3, not narrower than head. Disc 3-sulcate (as Fig. 1H), median sulcus and two paramedial sulci deep and punctate; lateral depressions shallow and strigose. Lateral margins even, posterolateral angles finely crenulate and not prominent. Elytra punctate and strigose, with lateral longitudinal ridge present.

Abdomen coriaceous and pubescent, broadest at segment V. Sternite VII ( Fig. 22E) with posterior margin triangularly protruding in middle, abruptly narrowed backward and weakly emarginate on apex. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 22F) with subbasal ridge continuous and straight, with two deeply V-shaped ruptures near middle of posterior margin, forming large and subrectangular median plate, with mid-longitudinal internal ridge present but feeble, apical margin of median plate almost truncate but notched in middle, with interrupted transverse carina a little behind, in center of median plate with small tubercle. Tergite X ( Fig. 22H) longer than wide, posterior margin truncate, with two lines of setae on haired posterior part.

Aedeagus ( Figs. 22K–N). Median lobe ovoid; with sclerite-like or membranous structures inside; apico-medial hook U-shaped in lateral view and bent at near middle, with apex sharply pointed and hooked upwards, basal process well developed as long as apical part; dorsal membranous area covering most of dorsum median lobe. Paramere arm-like, with seta on apical 1/3, without highlighted zone; apex sharply pointed.

Female. Head ( Fig. 22B) smaller than male; clypeus not beyond anterior margin of supra-antennal ridges; temples extremely obsolete. Mandible ( Fig. 22D) slenderer and with apex pointed.

Abdominal sternite VII not protruding on posterior margin. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 22G) with posterior margin weakly bi-emarginate near middle. Tergite X ( Fig. 22I) with posterior margin truncate but not so narrow as male.

Spermatheca ( Fig. 22J) C-shaped, right-angled at near middle, basal portion slightly inflated, gradually narrowed apically, and apical portion curved, with apex rounded.

Distribution. China (Beijing, Fujian, Guizhou, Hong Kong, Jiangxi, Liaoning, Shanghai, Sichuan, Taiwan, Zhejiang); South Korea; Japan; Myanmar; Indonesia; Pakistan; India; Sri Lanka; Nepal; Bangladesh; Egypt (for O. varipennis ssp. pharaonum ).
