Diagnosis. Species of variable size, usually medium to large (4.1–6.9 mm), distinguished by antennal scape devoid of scales, prominent eyes, robust body outline and dorsal vestiture of silvery scales, somewhat bronze on odd elytral interstriae.
Distribution. Mediterranean France, from Savoie to Hérault (type locality: “Gallia” = France). Spanish literature records: Barcelona: San Genís ( Iglesias Iglesias, 1922), Sierra de Montserrat ( Kiesenwetter, 1852). Mallorca: Torre d’en Pau, Palma ( Tenenbaum, 1915). All these records, cited again by Gurrea Sanz & Sanz Benito (2000), are in our opinion based on misidentifications.
Biology. Adults are found on different species of Rosa , Crataegus (Rosaceae) , Ononis (Fabaceae) and Bupleurum (Apiaceae) .
