Etymology. The specific name is a noun in apposition from the type locality.

Diagnosis. Males of Scytodes vassununga n.sp. are distinguished from those of the remaining Neotropical Scytodes by the retrolateral fold of the distal area of the bulb ( Fig. 82 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). The females are distinguished by the apical constriction of the slightly globose hyaline pockets and by the apical position of the slender sclerotized areas ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ).

Description. Male (Holotype, IBSP 92316). Carapace yellow with brown pattern as shown on Fig. 80 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 . Chelicerae orange with dorsal, longitudinal brown stripe. Pedipalps orange. Labium and endites orange, distally lighter. Sternum cream colored with brown markings in front of each coxae. Legs yellow. Femur I–IV with pair of ventral, longitudinal brown stripes. Tibia I–IV with dorsal longitudinal brown stripe and brown extremities. Abdomen gray with black pattern ( Fig. 80 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Total length 3.7. Carapace slightly domed, 2.0 long, 1.7 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.16, ALE 0.16, PLE 0.14. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae with subapical hyaline keel and inconspicuous stridulatory ridges. Labium 0.20 long, 0.26 wide. Sternum 1.2 long, 0.9 wide. Leg measurements: I: femur 5.0, patella 0.5, tibia 5.4, metatarsus 6.8, tarsus 0.8, total 18.5; II: 3.5, 0.5, 3.6, 4.2, 0.6, 12.4; III: 2.1, 0.6, 2.3, 2.2, 0.5, 7.7; IV: 3.4, 0.6, 3.0, 3.6, 0.7, 11.3. Palpal femur with stridulatory pick short and stout on rounded, projected socket. Cymbium with single distal spine ( Fig. 81 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Bulb 0.64 long, medially narrowed and very slightly curved. Distal region retrolaterally folded ( Fig. 82 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ) and with a prolateral pointed sclerotized process ( Figs. 81 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ; 83). Abdomen 1.7 long, 1.6 wide, covered with slender hairs.

Female (Paratype, IBSP 92318). Coloration pattern as in male. Total length 5.4. Carapace domed, 1.7 long, 2.2 wide. Eye diameters: PME 0.16, ALE 0.14, PLE 0.14. Lateral eyes on a tubercle. Chelicerae as in male. Labium 0.20 long, 0.30 wide. Sternum 1.2 long, 1.0 wide. Leg measurements: I: absent; II: femur 2.5, patella 0.6, tibia 2.6, metatarsus 3.3, tarsus 0.6, total 9.6; III: 1.7, 0.5, 1.5, 1.9, 0.5, 6.1; IV: 2.7, 0.6, 2.4, 2.6, 0.6, 8.9. Palpal femur as in male. Epigynum with ridged positioning ridges separated from each other by their width ( Fig. 84 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Vulva with small, globose spermathecae on long, narrow stalks, anterior to slightly globose and medially constricted hyaline pockets ( Fig. 85 View FIGURES 74 – 85. 74 – 79 ). Abdomen 3.7 long, 2.5 wide, as in male.
