Swammerdamella amorimi View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 4 View FIGURE 4 C–F, 5B)

Type material. Holotype male, labelled: Mexico, Guerrero, Chilpancingo, Ayutla de los Libres, Localidad La Unión, Rancho “El Camalote”, Trampa Malaise, 7-Abr-16-May-2009, 70 msnm, col. W. B. Marin, in CAIM. 1 Paratype: male, Mexico, San Luis Potosi, Localidad Totolteo, cerca a la localidad, Trampa Malaise, 24-Abr-1997, Col. C. Pérez-Rentería & R. Paz-Rodríguez (dissected), in CAIM.

Diagnosis. Male: The shape of tergite 6 with median lobe truncate posteriorly, sternite 6 simple and tergite 7 with nearly straight posterior margin are characteristic for this species.

Description. Male. Head brown. Eyes with interommatidial spicules; antenna with 7 flagellomeres uniformly brown; pedicel subcylindrical, similar in length to the first flagellomere; flagellomeres I to VI wider than long, distal flagellomere club-shaped; flagellum length, 0.19–0.26 (0.22, n=2) mm; palpus brown, stout, reniform, pointed, sensilla scattered, length, 0.10 mm (n=2); labellum light brown; cardo-stipes with 3 setae.

Thorax. Dark brown. Scutum covered with sparse short setae; 8 supra-alar setae; anterior spiracular sclerite with 20 setae; anepisternum with 7 scattered setae; anterior part of katepisternum with 2 setae; posterior spiracular sclerite with 2 setae. Legs brown; coxae dark brown; femora and tibiae dark brown, with normally pale spot; tarsi pale yellow.

Wing: length 0.81–0.83 (0.82, n=2) mm, width 0.40–0.41 (0.40, n=2) mm, hyaline, membrane entirely covered with dense, minute, light micropilosity; radial veins short, extending 0.41 of wing length, light brown; 8 dorsal setae on basal portion of R, 6 dorsal setae on R4+5, 2 dorsal setae on R1; posterior veins translucent; fork of M with branches diverging markedly only near apex of wing; false vein faint.

Abdomen: Brown; tergite 6 ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 E) with posterior margin produced into a truncate median lobe, distal margin sclerotized; slightly bilobed on anterior margin; length, 0.32 (n=2) mm, width, 0.027–0.28 (0.27, n=2) mm; sternite 6 simple, rectangular ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 F). Segment 7 ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 C), length, 0.20–0.21 (0.20, n=2) mm. Tergite 7 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) length, 0.08–0.09 (0.08, n=2) mm, width, 0.15–0.16 (0.15, n=2) mm, with anterior margin almost straight, posterior margin concave, with usual median process, truncate apically, and a second process shorter and more sclerotized. Intersegmental membrane of segment 7, with lateral specialized group of setae. Sternite 7 ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 B) U-shaped, length, 0.16 mm (n=2), width, 0.20–0.21 (0.20, n=2) mm; with anterior sclerite bar; medially more sclerotized Vshaped; posterior margin rounded, with a shallow median emargination sclerotized. Genital capsule ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 4 D) length, 0.12 (n=2) mm, width, 0.11–0.12 (0.11, n=2) mm, gonocoxite lobulated (sensu Cook, 1956), posterior margin with spinulae; aedeagal plate with posterior margin pointed; penis valve (sensu Cook, 1956) rounded, with scattered setae.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution. Neotropical. Mexico (San Luis Potosi, Guerrero).

Etymology. The species is named in honor of Dr. Dalton De Souza Amorim, Universidade de São Paulo, Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto, Departamento de Biologia, for his invaluable contribution to the systematic of the family Scatopsidae .

Discussion. Swammerdamella amorimi distinguished by shape of tergite 6 and having tergite 7 almost straight in posterior margin. Sternite 7 is similar in all these species (see key below for separation of Mexican species of Swammerdamella ).
