Distribution. Collected from off Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro, at depths from 545 to 2271 m. Ventrifossa macropogon was described from off Jamaica (16°35’ N, 80°10’ W), and is known from off the Atlantic coast of Florida, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean and Brazil; in the Pacific it was recorded from New Caledonia (Cohen et al. 1990; Serét & Andreata 1992; Merrett & Iwamoto 2000).
