Type material.
Pythonides insulsus
Draudt, 1922
was described based on one female [

Brazil
in Seitz collection. The female
holotype
is deposited at the

with the following labels: / S. Bras. Stgr/ Type/

Diagnosis.
Telemiades insulsus
is distinguished from other species of the “
corbulo
group” by the ground color light brown without bluish and purple reflections in both sexes and by the apical hyaline spots irregular in females. Additionally,
T. insulsus
is the only known species of the “
corbulo
group” restricted to Brazilian Cerrado.
Distribution.
Telemiades insulsus
occurs in areas of the Brazilian Cerrado, with records in the states of
Mato Grosso
,
Goiás
,
Distrito Federal
, and
Minas Gerais
.
Taxonomic discussion.
Pythonides insulsus
Draudt, 1922
was synonymized with
T. corbulo
by
Evans (1953)
and remained a synonym of it.
Mielke (1993)
and
Mielke & Schroeder (1994)
dissected and illustrated the genitalia of the
holotype
of
P. insulsus
.
The genitalia are very different from that of
T. corbulo
but it has the phenotypic pattern of the females of the “
corbulo
group”.
Mielke (1993)
suggested that the dissected abdomen may belong to another species. The irregular hyaline marks in the female
holotype
of
P. insulsus
is a constant feature in specimens from the Brazilian Cerrado. In addition, males from the same location are also similar to their female counterparts, and the morphology of the male and female genitalia of these individuals differs from other species of the
corbulo
group. Thus,
T. insulsus
stat. rev.
is here interpreted as a distinct species from the other species of the same group, and its status is revalidated.
