Wright, (1, NSMC). Bledius mandibularis is newly recorded in Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada . Its distribution in Atlantic Canada is shown in Fig. 14 . In North America there are two populations; a coastal one occurring from southern Texas to Massachusetts , and an inland one found in the central regions of the United States , north to southern Manitoba ( Herman 1972 ). The coastal population is found on bare, moist ground in saline habitats, generally on the leeward side of islands or peninsulas and behind beach dunes ( Herman 1972 ). Backmans Beach is a small island at the tip of the Second Peninsula in Lunenburg County which is linked to the mainland via a barrier beach. It has six variously sized barrier beach-coastal lagoon areas with associated marshlands and sand flats.
