World distribution. Argentina , Brasil and Chile . Chilean distribution. From Arica y Parinacota to Los Ríos region ( Fig. 205 ). Altitudinal range. From coastal to highland ecosystems (5– 2,930 m .a.s.l.). Biology and notes. Syrphus reedi is associated with the EN native tree G. keule ( Lander et al. , 2009 ) . This tree is found in a small area of the Chilean coastal mountain range between the Maule and Biobío regions ( Acevedo & Álvarez 1999 ), but S. reedi has a greater distribution in Chile . Biological interactions are not currently considered as a criterion in the IUCN Red List assessment ( IUCN 2012 ). Therefore, it is not possible to assign a threaten category to this fly based on the mutualism it exhibits with this threatened tree species. Syrphus reedi has also been associated to flowers of the exotic plant Eucalyptus nitens H. Deane & Maiden ( Sanzana et al. , 2012 ) . Also, this species has been observed visiting flowers of other exotic and native plant species registered by citizen scientists such as Gilliesia graminea Lindl. (Camilo Colilaf, CSP record); L. maritima (Gabriela Germain, CSP record); Luma apiculata (Orlando Montes, CSP record); M. domestica (Vanessa Durán, Paz Gatica, Joaquín Sepúlveda, Romina Oberti and Rodrigo Barahona-Segovia, pers. obs.); Prunus sp. and R. raphanistrum (Asiel Olivares, CSP records). Conservation status. LC; EOO = 344,810 km 2 , AOO = 128 km 2 , 28 subpopulations and 29 localities.
