Comments
.
Borgmeier (1963a)
described
Coniceromyia arizonensis
based on a female
holotype
, diagnosing this species by its M1 ending far from the wing tip. This feature, however, is considerably widespread in the genus and it is not sufficient alone to separate it from many other species of
Coniceromyia
. The geographical distribution suggests that males described as
C. auristriata
Borgmeier
may correspond to the female
holotype
of
C. arizonensis
. Additional material from the
United States
and a better sampling of the genus along this distribution would be necessary, however, before any decision concerning synonymizing both species.
