Cresson described this species from a female (IES # 330) and a male deposited in the ANSP. The female was stated to be the type by Alayo (1973) ; however, Townes and Townes (1966: 39) had previously designated the male in ANSP as the lectotype , so the IES specimen is a paralectotype . Porter (1978) included this species within a distinctive Neotropical species-group of Epirhyssa .
