"Habitat ad Cap. b. Spei." RCN: 1791. Lectotype (Brown in Thistleton-Dyer, Fl. Cap. 4(1): 939. 1909): Herb. Clifford: 77, Stapelia 2 (BM-000558154) . Generitype of Stapelia Linnaeus , nom. cons. Current name: Stapelia hirsuta L. ( Asclepiadaceae ). Note: Stapelia hirsuta , with the type designated by Brown, was proposed as conserved type of the genus by Jarvis (in Taxon 41: 570. 1992). This was approved by the Committee for Spermatophyta (in Taxon 44: 612. 1995) and ratified by the General Committee (in Taxon 48: 374. 1999). However, subsequent Codes do not list Herb. Clifford: 77, Stapelia 2 ( BM ) as the generitype , so the specimen remains a lectotype , rather than a conserved type.
