Holcus bicolor
Linnaeus
,
Mantissa Plantarum Altera
: 301. 1771
.
"Habitat in Persia. D. Lerche. H. U." RCN: 7565.
Lectotype
(Davidse in Cafferty & al. in
Taxon
49: 251. 2000): Herb. Clifford: 468,
Holcus
1 (BM-000647533)
.
Current name:
Sorghum bicolor
(L.) Moench
(
Poaceae
).
Note:
See exhaustive review by Snowden (
Cult. Races
Sorghum
: 7, 106. 1936), who stated that a specimen in LINN (perhaps 1212.6?) "may be the type". This is ineffective. Poilecot (in
Boissiera
56: 509. 1999) indicated material in LINN as the type of
S. bicolor
(L.) Moench
, and a Clifford collection as the
lectotype
of
H. bicolor
L. Davidse & Turland
(in
Taxon
50: 577. 2001) have, however, accepted Poilecot as having effectively typified the name using the Clifford sheet. This, however, was ineffective, and
Davidse's
2000 choice is accepted as typifying the name.
