C. destructor Newstead, adult females on Bursaria spinosa, Australia (P.J. Gullan). Note that the waxy tests appear rather variable in shape and that the white of the stigmatic wax bands show up very clearly. 3. C. deceptrix (De Lotto), young adult females on unknown host, South Africa (J. Giliomee). Note: the shape of the older wax tests is much modified by the presence of other tests and also the plant’s twigs. However, the younger tests do have a distinct shape and show plates and white stigmatic wax bands. 4. C. deceptrix (De Lotto), mature adult female on unknown host, South Africa (J.H. Giliomee). Note: this is a very old test and it is possible that the wax is beginning to dry out. The dorsal nucleus is just visible. 5. C. rubens Maskell, adult female on Philodendron sp., Colombia (T. Kondo). Note: this is a particularly brightly coloured specimen; also note the characteristic shape of the test and the unusual distribution of the stigmatic wax bands (anterior end to right). 6. C. stellifera (Westwood), on leaf of Schefflera sp., Colombia (T. Kondo). Note: mature adult females red, younger adults rather hyaline (posterior end with short wax rays); plus a 1st- instar nymph. 7. C. rusci Linnaeus, adult females, on Pistacia lentiscus, from Capri, southern Italy (G. Pellizzari). Note: the wax on these specimens is nearly white and test divided into well-defined wax plates. 8. C. rusci Linnaeus, adult females, on Ficus sp., from Leganaro (G. Pellizzari). As for FIGURE 7 but note the pink tinge to the wax of the test. 9. C. theobromae Newstead, adult females. Dried material (MNHN), off Ficus sp., Democratic Republic of Congo (A.L.B.G. Peronti). Note how the wax of dried tests becomes rather clear once much of the water has evaporated." pageId="188" pageNumber="189">Figs 9</figureCitation>

Marginal setae stoutly setose, each about 11–20 (16–18) µm long; rather few, frequency uncertain but perhaps 6–8 (8) anteriorly between eyespots, and (on each side) 2 or 3 (1) between eyespots and anterior stigmatic area, 6–7 between stigmatic areas and an unknown number on either side of abdomen; each anal lobe perhaps with 3 longer setae, each 30–70 µm long. Stigmatic clefts quite deep, each with a group of roundly to slightly elongate conical stigmatic setae extending in a rather narrow group onto dorsum; each group about as long as wide, and often rather triangular in shape, with about 32–52 (32–38) stigmatic setae; most setae 8–13 (7–10) µm long and 7–10 (6.5–9) µm wide but each group generally with a noticeably larger seta located towards dorsal apex of group, each about 15–23 (14–16) µm long and 10–13 (12–13) µm wide. Eyespots each about 25–30 (30) µm wide.
