( Figs. 30–35 , 82 , 89 ) Etymology. This species is named for my grandson Evan Michael Webb Wettstone. Diagnosis. The male of Penniverpa evani is similar to P. chersonesa and is separated from P. chersonesa by the distiphallus in dorsal view ( Fig. 32 ) with a broad apicolateral flange and the anterior margin of the dorsal apodeme ( Fig. 32 ) emarginate. The female differs from P. chersonesa in having white pubescence ( Fig. 82 ) posterolaterally on tergites 1–3 and 5–6 and the furca lacking an anterolateral projection. FIGURES 24–29. Mesonotum brownish gray; vittae dull brown with pubescence gray, often indistinguishable; setae short black, erect to suberect intermixed with white, lanceolate, appressed setae. Pleura with dense gray pubescence, pubescence lighter on anterior fourth of anepimeron; setae white, on propleuron, anepisternum, katepisternum, laterotergite, and scutellum. Wing. Membrane pale brown; veins brown; length 4.7–6.2, 5.7 mm , width 1.8–2.3, 2.1 mm , length/width 2.6–2.9, 2.8 times longer than wide; pterostigma indistinguishable. Halter stalk dark brown, knob yellow. Legs. Coxae dark reddish brown, pubescence white; setae white. Femora dark reddish brown; ventral setae white on fore– and middle femora; av 1– 2:0:1–2, pv 0:0:3–7. Tibiae and tarsi brown. Abdomen. Orange brown, pubescence white; dorsal setae white, elongate, appressed forming dense band across posterior margin, lateral setae white. Terminalia (MEI 088437). Dark brown. Sternite 8 ( Fig. 30 ), setae dark brown, continuous across posterior margin. FEMALE. Variation (n=3). Body length 7.3–8.0, 7.7 mm . Head. Length 0.88–0.90, 0.89 mm . Frons pubescence white, dense; setae dark brown, short on dorsal half. Penniverpa evani is known from Ecuador , El Salvador and Panama ( Fig. 89 ) Habitats and phenology. Penniverpa evani has been collected in January, March, April, May, October, and November.
