Distribution. Only known from the typelocality at Namoroka Canyon, Tsingy de Namoroka National Park, Grotte Canyon ( 16.4693°S , 45.3380°E ), where it was collected in the deepest part of thecave. Deposited in the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Paris, France. Discussion. It is likely that many of the unique characters, such as small eyes and brachyptery, of Stenorhamphus troglodytes , new combination , are adaptations for dwelling in caves. Because of these autapomorphies that may obscure morphological synapomorphies with other species, the placement of Stenorhamphus troglodytes in our phylogenetic analysis as sister to a clade containing the two remaining Madagascan species and the species from Sri Lanka and Thailand should be considered as tentative.
