Type-species. Nephtys hombergii Savigny in Lamarck, 1818 View in CoL by subsequent designation.
Diagnosis (Ravara et al. 2010). The genus Nephtys presently includes specimens with conical, rounded or bilobed acicular lobes and well-developed parapodial lamellae. Neuropodial superior lobes absent. Branchiae recurved. Lyrate chaetae absent. Acicula of median and posterior parapodia with curved tips. Antennae present. Pharynx usually with rows of fewer than 10 subterminal papillae (usually up to 5–7 in each row); long middorsal papilla often present; proximal region smooth or covered with small warts. Jaws conical, hook-like. Nuchal organs rounded.
