Type locality: China, Sichuan Province, Northwest of Dujiangyan City, Longchishan .
Type material. Holotype male, CHINA: Sichuan Province: Northwest of Dujiangyan City, Longchishan , 1800 m, 26.VIII.2005, coll. Xiaoyan Li ( IZ-CAS) . Paratypes: CHINA: Sichuan Province: 4 males, same data as holotype ( IZ-CAS) ; 1 male, 1 female, northwest of Dujiangyan City, Longchishan , 26.VIII.2005, coll. Caiyun Zhao ( IZ-CAS) ; 3 males, 2 females, West China Subalpine Botanical Garden , 26.VIII. 2005, coll. Yejun Zhang ( IZ- CAS) .
Measurements. BL: 5.4–6.0 mm; FL: 2.6–3.2 mm. HL: 0.93 mm; HW: 0.85 mm; PL: 0.88 mm; PW: 0.76 mm; EL: 0.77 mm; EW: 0.74 mm; ELL: 0.23 mm; POL: 0.45 mm.
Description. Body ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 ) elongate and dark brown; legs and antennae yellowish brown.
Head ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 , 6A View FIGURE 6 ) weakly oblong, 1.09 times as long as wide; punctation of head dense and moderately coarse, umbilicate punctures distinct in middle of head and partly confluent on vertex, distance between punctures smaller than diameters of punctures; umbilicate punctures present vaguely and sparsely on posterior margin of head; interstices without microsculpture; eyes small and protruding, postocular portion approximately 1.96 times as long as eye length in dorsal view.
Pronotum ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ) oval, elongated, anterior and posterior angles obsolete, with anterior half slightly wider, 1.16 times as long as wide, slightly smaller than head, 0.95 times as long and 0.89 times as wide as head; punctation not umbilicate, moderately dense and less coarse than that of head; longitudinal midline posteriorly with short and narrowly elevated impunctate band; interstices without microsculpture. Dense punctured depression near posterior middle margin.
Elytra ( Fig. 6A View FIGURE 6 ) 1.04 times as long as wide; slightly smaller than pronotum, 0.88 times as long and 0.97 times as wide as pronotum; lateral sides expanded posteriorly with widest at posterior third; hind wings reduced; punctation denser and less coarse than that of pronotum, interstices without microsculpture.
Abdomen with punctation dense and coarse on tergites III–V, moderately dense and less coarse on tergite VI, sparse and fine on tergites VII–VIII; interstices without microsculpture.
Male. Sternite VII ( Fig. 6B View FIGURE 6 ) with posterior margin truncate at middle. Sternite VIII ( Fig. 6C View FIGURE 6 ) with triangular posterior excision. Aedeagus ( Figs. 6 View FIGURE 6 D–6F) moderately sclerotized; ventral process long, constricted near basal forth and half in dorsal view, with a pair of short straight bars ventrally, apex divided into two wide branches in ventral view; dorso-lateral apophyses slender, slightly widened at apex in ventral view, not reaching apex of ventral process.
Distribution and habitat data. The species is known only from Dujiangyan City, in northern Sichuan Province. The specimen was collected by sifting leaf litter at an altitude of 1800 m.
Comparative notes. The new species is similar to N. divisus Hu & Li ( Hu & Li 2015: 6, Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ) from Hunan Province in habitus and aedeagal characters, but can be separated from N. divisus by the wider ventral process and the short straight bars ventrally.
Etymology. The specific epithet is a Greek word megalocephalus , to indicate the large head relatively to other body parts.
