Chloeia furcigera de Quatrefages, 1866 Indeterminable View in CoL

Chloeia furcigera de Quatrefages, 1866: 389 View in CoL ; Baird 1868: 231; Hartman 1959: 131; Solís-Weiss et al. 2004: S2.

Type locality. Mauritius .

Type material. Indian Ocean , Mauritius Island. Holotype ( MNHN IA-TYPE 94), J.F.T. Eydoux & L.C.D Souleyet, coll. (no further data; collected in 1836–1837 after Eydoux & Souleyet 1841).

Observations. Holotype ( MNHN IA-TYPE 94) very damaged, with extended histolysis before preservation, without most notochaetae, and anterior end deprived of prostomium and caruncle. Body colorless, subcylindrical, 105 mm long, 13 mm wide, 31 chaetigers. Bipinnate branchiae from chaetiger 4. Anus terminal, anal cirri lost.

Remarks. De Quatrefages (1866: 389) indicated that the specimen was in such a very poor condition, with a few anterior chaetigers with chaetae, that he doubted about naming the species (‘ne pas motiver l’établissement de l’espèce’). Horst (1910: 172) regarded the species name as indeterminable; his conclusion is herein supported.
