Maruina (Maruina) mystax sp. nov.

( Figs. 48–53 View FIGURE 48–53 )

Diagnosis. Combination of the following characters: clypeus with a pair of apico-lateral projections, palpus unsegment; gonocoxite with approximately only eight setae on dorsal surface; aedeagus with long and thin spines only; aedeagal sheath composed of two subcylindrical parts, basal portion larger.

Description. Male. Head ( Fig. 48 View FIGURE 48–53 ): distance between eyes equivalent to 9 facet diameters, interocular suture present, frons with two patches of setae on lateral gibbosity near antenna insertion; antenna with scape longer than pedicel ( Fig. 49 View FIGURE 48–53 ), 14 flagellomeres; clypeus with a pair of apico-lateral projections ( Fig. 50 View FIGURE 48–53 ), palpus unsegment covered by many scamiform setae. Wing ( Fig. 51 View FIGURE 48–53 ): C with break on anterior margin, at the level of base of R 1, R 2 united to R 4 and R 5, R 3 short, R 5 infuscate ending at wing apex, M 1 united to M 3, M 2 incomplete, wing length 1,98 mm, maximum width 0,405 mm. Terminalia ( Figs. 52–53 View FIGURE 48–53 ): hypandrium well sclerotized, aedeagal sheath composed of two tubular portions, basal portion larger; gonocoxite with approximately eight setae on dorsal surface, gonostylus subtriangular, shorter than gonocoxite; aedeagus with long and thin spines only; ejaculatory apodeme oval, gonocoxal apodeme bilobate anteriorly, epandrium around 3X wider than long with a single small central aperture, basally with anterolateral arms that extends dorsally until the hypandrium, apical margin concave; subepandrial sclerite Yshaped, posterior arms longer than anterior arm, anterior arm expanded, leaf-shaped; epiproct largely visible with micropilose caudal digitiform projection medially; hypoproct subquadrate with concave posterior margin. Epandrial appendage with a single clavate tenaculum at apex.

Female. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype: ♂ BRAZIL, Roraima, Amajari, Serra Tepequém , 10-12.vi.2010, malaise, col. J. A. Rafael; F. F. Xavier; R. Machado; R. Freitas ( INPA) ; Paratypes: 27 ♂♂ same data .

Etymology. From the Greek mystax , meaning ‘mustache’, in reference to the dense cover of setae on clypeus and palpi.

Distribution. Brazil (Roraima).

Holotype condition. Slide mounted, head and wings separated from thorax, antennae and palpi complete, thorax and abdomen in lateral view, terminalia in dorsoventral view.

Remarks. This species has very striking unique characters on the head that separate it from all other species of Maruina : clypeus with two digitiform apico-lateral projections and unsegmented palpus. Regardless, it presents the diagnostic features of Maruina (Maruina) , and for this reason we have decided to classify this species in this subgenus.
