Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens observed at Kavieng fish market by Barry C. Russell during 7–28 June 2014. Specimens photographed at St. KVG19 ( Bagail Bay , Kavieng District ) by Serge Andréfouët on 19 Aug. 2014; a video of a specimen taken at Anelaua Island , off eastern New Hanover , at 3–16 m depth, St. KR 98, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).

Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2.—General distribution: Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Yap ( Caroline Islands) and Solomon Islands, north to Vietnam and Philippines, south to northern Australia. Found in coastal reefs or lagoons with sand or silt bottom, often in seagrass beds, 1–10 m depth. Marine.
