= D. ciliata (ABRS 2010; Wilson et al. 2003) due to a translation error (in prep).
Type locality: Berwick Bay, England; soft sediments in rock crevices.
Type material: Unknown. No record of a type being deposited.
Location and author of most recently described material: 1) type material ( Johnston 1838) – non-boring form; 2) mud flats at Whitstable and Hale, England – non-boring form ( Mustaquim 1986); 3) Aalborg Harbour, Limfjorden, N. Denmark ( Worsaae 2001), palp morphology – non-boring form.
No Australian material examined. The boring form was described and referred to P. calcarea ( Templeton, 1836) by Radashevsky and Pankova (2006).
Recorded distribution: Australia: Western Australia (Exmouth). North and south Atlantic.
