Type locality: India: Chingrighatta canal, Gangetic Delta, within 10 miles (16 km) of Calcutta; in a canal of slightly brackish water.

Type material: Type material never deposited or lost. 5 specimens collected.

Location and author of most recently described material: Australia ( Blake & Kudenov 1978); pygidium missing in Australian material.

Recorded distribution: Australia: Queensland (Moreton Bay), New South Wales (Merimbula). India; Japan; British Columbia; USA: California; Mozambique.
