Type locality: Long Island Sound, Connecticut, USA.

Type material: Lectotype: LACM-AHF POLY 1628 Good.

Location and author of most recently described material: 1) Gulf of Mexico, Lemon Bay, Florida, USA; Long Island Sound, Connecticut, USA ( Radashevsky 1999); 2) New Zealand ( Read 2010); Australian material examined but was in very poor condition.

Recorded distribution: Australia: New South Wales. East, west and gulfs coast of North America; west coast of South America; New Zealand; Japan.
