Type locality: in wood, Gulf of Naples, Italy. Type material: Unknown. None deposited?

Location and author of most recently described material: East coast, South Africa (Simon 2009); reference made to Hutchings and Turvey (1984) and Hartman-Schröder (1987).

Recorded distribution: Australia: South Australia (Adelaide), Western Australia (Horrocks, Geraldton) in soft substrates. Gulf of Naples, Italy; Japan; South Africa: South (with oysters) and east coast.
