Kivua pleuritica ( Forsius, 1927)

Athalia pleuritica Forsius, 1927: 98  . Locus typicus: British East Africa [ Kenya], Masai Reserve. Holotype: ♂. British East Africa [ Kenya], Masai Reserve, 3.IV. 1911, T. J. Anderson ( BMNH). Neacidiophora pleuritica: Benson, 1962: 382  .

Pseudoneacidiophora pleuritica  : Koch, 1998 a: 11.

Ethiopian material. L[ake] Bishoftu [08° 44 ’N 038° 59 ’E], 7000 ft, 30 km S Addis Abeba, 29.VII. 1945 (1 ♀) K. M. Guichard ( BMNH).

Distribution. Etiopia, Kenya.

Host plant. Unknown.

Remarks. Kivua pleuritica  is a small species (5.5–6.5 mm), and similarly coloured to typical Athalia  species: head and thorax black, abdomen yellow. Furthermore, Forsius (1927) described the antenna as 10 -jointed (8 flagellomeres). In fact, the flagellum is subdivided in 7 flagellomeres. The misinterpretation of these morphological characters explains why Forsius (1927) described the species in Athalia  . The genitalia of K. pleuritica  were illustrated by Koch (1998 a: figs 40–43).
