( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 )

Holotype: ♂, paratypes ♀, Taiwan, Nantou, Lienhuachih (N 23°55′, E 120°52′, 750m) April 13, 1999, collected by Wan-Tong Yang.

Male ( Fig.2 View FIGURE 2 a–g) Body small in size. Head shorter than pronotum. Front oblique, frontal costa distinctly concave before lateral ocelli in profile, frontal ridge with longitudinal groove entirely, width of frontal ridge narrower than width of basal joint of antenna, only protruding arched between base of antennae in profile. Vertex broad, flat, widest 1.5 times diameter of eye, not protruding the anterior margin of eyes. Eye protruding above anterior margin of pronotum. Antennae slender, located in lower margin of eyes, length of a segment in the middle of antennae is about 8.0 times of its width. Anterior margin of pronotum reaching posterior margin of eyes, upper margin of pronotum waved in lateral view, lateral carinae contracted backward distinctly, posterior margin of lateral lobe of pronotum with 2 concaves and posterior apex of lower margin angular, the apex of pronotum with a triangular concave, reaching the midpoint of hind femur only. Wings absent. Lower margins of fore and mid femora waved. Upper keel of hind femur smooth. Hind tibia with 9 spines on outer side and 8 spines on inner side.

First segment of hind tarsus longer than third one, arolium of tarsus very small. Cercus conical, basal part widened distinctly. Subgenital plate triangular, apex obtuse.

Female ( Fig.2 View FIGURE 2 h–i) Body larger than male. Pronotum shorter, not reaching midpoint of hind femur. Ovipositor valves narrower, length of upper valve is 4.0 times its width, upper valves with teeth on upper side, lower valves with teeth on lower side, apex hooked and pointed. Subgenital plate tɼDpezo!dDǀ, posterior margin with curved prominent in the middle. Others same as male.

Coloration: body yellowish-brown.

Length of body: ♂ 8.7 mm, ♀11.0 mm.

Length of pronotum: ♂ 5.4 mm, ♀ 6.5 mm.

Length of hind femur: ♂ 5.1 mm, ♀ 5.6 mm.

The new species is allied to Aalatettix yangi , the major differences are listed in Table 2 View TABLE 2 .

Etymology: The species is named in honor of Prof. Kailing Xia for his contribution to the studies of Chinese Orthoptera fauna.
