Type Locality: Chile, Santiago Prov., Altos Andes.

Vernacular Names: Andean Akodont.

Synonyms: Abrothrix cinnamomea (Philippi 1896) ; Abrothrix dolichonyx (Philippi 1896) ; Abrothrix gossei (Thomas 1920) ; Abrothrix jucundus (Thomas 1913) ; Abrothrix polius Osgood 1944 .

Distribution: Altiplano, generally above 3500 m, from SC Perú, through extreme W Bolivia, to NW Argentina and C Chile (as far as 34ºS; Muñoz Pedreros, 2000).

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Chroeomys andinus .

Discussion: Anderson (1997) employed dolichonyx as subspecies for Bolivian populations but emphasized the need for fresh evaluation of intraspecific variation.
