Material examined. Holotype, ♀, CHINA: Taihorin (23.96°N, 120.97°E), Formosa (Taiwan), vi.1911, leg. H. Sauter ( SDEI) GoogleMaps .

Additional material. CHINA: 1 ♀, Taihorin (23.96°N, 120.97°E) GoogleMaps , Formosa (Taiwan), v.1910, ex coll. ZMB [= MNHU] , Berlin, genitalia slide No. NK-GW07 deposited in MNHU .

Redescription. Adult ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 5 – 10 ) with wingspan 14.5 mm. Head dark brown, with metallic luster. Labial palpus dark brown except first segment grayish white. Antenna purplish black, basal 7/8 of flagellum with dense pectinate scaling on dorsal edge. Patagium shining purplish brown. Thorax ferrugineous red except metathorax grayish white, with scattered red scales. Tegula ferrugineous red on inner half, grayish brown on outer half. Forewing ferrugineous red, deepening towards apex, purplish black at base; cilia brown, tinged with ochreous basally. Hindwing ferrugineous red, with scattered grayish brown scales at apex; costal margin paler basally; dorsum with semi-elliptical hyaline space at base; cilia pale brown. Legs grayish brown, with metallic luster. Abdomen grayish brown, third segment grayish white on posterior margin of dorsal surface.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 22 View FIGURES 21 – 24 ). Papillae anales longer than wide, with short setae. Intersegmental membrane between papillae anales and eighth abdominal segment about 1.5 times length of papillae anales. Apophysis posterior about 1.5 times length of apophysis anterior. Eighth segment with posterior margin straight and bearing long setae; eighth sternite with anterior 2/5 sub-triangular; eighth tergite sub-rectangular. Antrum funnel shaped, broad and short, sclerotized and triangularly protruded in middle anteriorly. Ductus bursae narrow posteriorly, gradually widened towards corpus bursae, about 5/6 length of corpus bursae. Corpus bursae elongate oval; two signa nearly rhombic, crescent, medially with a semi-elliptical ridge. Ductus seminalis arising from anterior 1/5 of ductus bursae, about 2.5 times length of corpus bursae, with dilated vesicle at middle, with granules distally.

Biology. Unknown.

Distribution. China ( Taiwan).

Diagnosis. Atkinsonia butalistis is similar to A. clerodendronella Stainton superficially by the forewing uniformly ferrugineous red. It can be distinguished by having a ferrugineous red hindwing; in the female genitalia
