[8] Calleida viet Casale & Shi View in CoL , sp. n.

Type locality: Vietnam: Vung Tau.

Type material: Holotype, male, “ Vietnam, Vung Tau XI.88 ” (CCA, fig. 56 View FIGURES 56–60 ). Paratype: one female, “ Vietnam, Vung Tau 20- 30.7.88 ” ( CCA).

Specific epithet. This new species is dedicated to the Viet people, living in the country where is located the type locality of the species.

Diagnosis. With the character states of the Calleida terminata species group, but distinct from the two other species of this group by the following character combination: medium sized (L: 9.5 mm); head and pronotum strongly metallic green or with cupreous reflections; elytra metallic green with wide cupreous metallic refection patch on apical and lateral regions; antennae, palpomeres, lateral furrows of pronotum, coxae and tarsi reddish; femora and underside strongly metallic green. Pronotum with deep transverse wrinkles. Elytra with outer apical angle acutely prominent apically. Median lobe of aedeagus in lateral aspect with ventral margin pointed beyond the main ventral lobe; endophallus with two chitinized copulatory pieces.

This new species is similar to C. terminata . In external features, these two species can be distinguished by a few characters: in C. viet , the first antennomere is without any trace of metallic reflection, the femora and underside are less distinctly metallic, and the size is smaller. But the differences in the distribution range and the characters in the male genitalia can easily separate these two species: in C. viet , the median lobe of aedeagus in ventral aspect has the main ventral lobe emarginated at the apex; in lateral aspect, the ventral margin beyond the main ventral lobe shows a smaller lobe, and the apex is strongly dilated at the apical orifice; endophallus with two copulatory pieces.

Description. General features: ( fig. 56 View FIGURES 56–60 ) Medium-sized species: L: 9.5 mm; TL: 9.0 mm.

Colour: Head metallic green; clypeus, labrum and mandibles blackish; frons dark metallic green, vertex with two reddish spots; antennae and tarsi reddish; tibiae dark brown, femora blackish with marked metallic greenish reflection. Pronotum metallic green or green with cupreous metallic reflection; elytra metallic green, a little cupreous at base, with wide cupreous-purple metallic refection patch on the apical and lateral regions; underside dark brown, with metallic green reflection on prosternum and abdominal sterna.

Lustre and microsculpture: very shiny, polished. Isodiametric meshes of the microsculpture on head and elytra almost vanished.

Head wide, flat, smooth; genae markedly constricted to the neck; frontal foveae shallow, sub-striate in front; genae very short, markedly narrowed to the neck constriction; eyes prominent, hemispherical; antennae reaching backwards to the basal sixth of the elytra.

Pronotum cordate, wider than long (ratio PW/PL: 1.25). Disc subconvex, with deep transverse wrinkles extended to the lateral furrows; median furrow complete, reaching the basal margin, markedly impressed. Anterior angles rounded; lateral margins rounded in front, deeply sinuate in the basal fifth. Basal margin bisinuate, oblique at sides; posterior angles reflexed and prominent laterally, sharply pointed but apex obtuse; basal foveae short and very deep.

Elytra: sub-depressed, relatively short (EL/EW: 1.68), transversely depressed on each side behind base, faintly dilated behind. Humeral angles rounded, lateral sides slightly compressed at one third from base; apex obliquely truncate, distinctly thickened at outer apical angles, which are sharp and acutely prominent apically. Striae deep, finely punctate; intervals convex at base, flattened on disc, with fine, shallow but distinct punctuation; the third interval with two discal and one apical pores. Pre-apical callosity on eighth interval small but evident.

Underside: Abdominal sternum VII in male deeply notched at middle and with one seta on each side in male; two setae in females.

Male genitalia: Median lobe of aedeagus ( figs. 57, 59 View FIGURES 56–60 ) very peculiar in shape: in ventral aspect, middle strongly dilated to the right side; in lateral aspect, dorsal margin sinuate, ventral margin with two developed lobes, the major one near the middle, very prominent, thickened and chitinized on the anterior margin, apex emarginate in ventral aspect; the minor one a little beyond the major one, smaller and obtuse; apical lamina very short, rounded at apex. Endophallus with two copulatory pieces, located in the middle area near the left lateral margin, very different in shape to each other: the left one smaller and thin, V shaped, the right one much bigger, sinuate, spine-like. Left paramere elongate, depressed on the dorsal side. ( fig. 58 View FIGURES 56–60 )

Female genitalia (reproductive tract and ovipositor, fig. 60 View FIGURES 56–60 ): spermatheca digitiform, tumid at apex, longer than the pedicel, with an evident basal sclerotized plate (annulus receptaculi), surface not whorled; spermathecal pedicel not expanded in the basal half; spermathecal gland and gonocoxites I and II as in description of the genus.

Geographical distribution and habitat. Vietnam: Vung Tau, known so far only from the type locality located in the southern coast of the country ( map 4 View MAP 4 ). Probably sampled in tropical secondary forest.
