Material studied. Holotype male. USA, Washington, Clallam County, Bogachiel, Bogachiel River, 29.VI.1974, P.A. Arnaud, Jr. (in CAS).

Description. Male. Head. Pale brown, antenna paler brown, maxillary palpus very pale brown. Eye bridge 3 facets wide. Face with 6 scattered longer and shorter setae. Clypeus with 1 seta. Maxillary palpus with 3 palpomeres; their lengths not seen in the specimen studied; palpomere 1 with 1 long sharp seta, with a dorsal pit of sensilla; palpomere 2 with 1 long sharp seta and 4 shorter truncate setae, palpomere 3 with 3 short truncate setae. Body of antennal flagellomere 4 2.8x as long as wide, the neck shorter than broad, the longest setae as long as the width of flagellomere. Thorax. Brown, setae pale. Anterior pronotum with 2 setae. Episternum 1 with 6 setae. Wing. Length 1.6 mm. Width/length 0.40. R1/R 0.75. c/ w 0.90. r-m longer than bM, r-m/bM 1.70, both non-setose. Halter pale brown. Legs. Pale yellowish. Coxal setae pale. Front tibial organ in large depression with vestiture in patch. Front tibial spur slightly longer than the tibial width. Abdomen. Pale brown, setae pale. Hypopygium, Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 A, B. Brown, concolorous with abdomen. Gonocoxa longer than gonostylus. Gonostylus slender with the mesial side impressed; apicomesially with a few elongated setae; with a long narrow apical tooth, with 2 long apical megasetae, with 2 mesial megasetae at the apical half, the basalmost mesial megaseta subequal with the apical ones, the apicalmost one smaller, all long and nearly straight; with two flagellate setae well basad of the mesial megasetae. Tegmen broader than long, with distinct sclerotized lateral shoulders.

Discussion. In its apical tooth, Camptochaeta filifera resembles C. mutua Johannsen, 1912 , C. inflata Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1994 and C. falcidens Hippa & Vilkamaa, 1994 , in having a membraneous mesial margin, but only in its basal part, not its whole length, as in the three latter species. The tooth is also relatively much shorter than in the latter species. In its tegmen, C. filifera resembles C. falcidens , but differs in having a narrower gonostylus and a different arrangement of the gonostylar megasetae, as well as in the characteristic of the apical tooth mentioned above.

Etymology. The name is derived from the Latin words, filum, thread and – fer, carrying, referring to the long setae on the mesial side of the gonostylus.
