TYPE LOCALITY: Cuba, Las Villas Prov., Archipiélago de Sabana, Cayo Fragoso, 79° 27' W., 22° 41' N GoogleMaps .

DISTRIBUTION: Known only from the type locality.

COMMENT: Placed in the genus Mesocapromys by Kratochvil et al., 1978, Acta Sci. Nat. Sci. Bohemoslov-Brno, 12(1 1): 15. However, retained in Capromys by Hall, 1981:865, and Corbet and Hill, 1980:191. GSM, CAW, and GCC include Mesocapromys in Capromys .
