Attems (1930) synonymised Heterostoma cribriferum var. robustum with Ethmostigmus platycephalus cribrifer (Gervais, 1847) . Subsequently, Schileyko & Stagl (2004) synonymised the latter under E. rubripes platycephalus (Newport, 1845) but did not include H. cribriferum var. robustum in their list of synonyms, an omission that we rectify: H. cribriferum var. robustum Haase, 1887 (Type locality: Indonesia, Seram (Ceram)) = Ethmostigmus rubripes platycephalus (Newport, 1845) syn. nov.
