Tachyusa madecassa Cameron, 1944a: 319 View in CoL . Ischnopoda egregia Pace, 1999a: 79 , syn. n. Ischnopoda madecassa: Pace, 1999: 77 .

Type material. Tachyusa madecassa Cameron. Lectotype (here designated): ɗ: Madagascar, Antananarivo, Sikora, T. madecassa Cam. Type ( BMNH). Paralectotypes: ɗ, Ψ: same data as lectotype ( BMNH).

Ischnopoda egregia Pace. Holotype: ɗ: N Madagascar, Ambodivoangy, XI.1969, J. V. ( MNHN).

Taxonomic notes. An examination of the types listed above, particularly the genitalia, revealed that they are all conspecific. Therefore, Ischnopoda egregia Pace is here synonymised with Tachyusa madecassa Cameron , the oldest name available.

Additional material. Madagascar: Perinet, 12.X.1970, ex banks of stream, 17 exx ( BMNH), 2 exx ( ISEA); Berenty Reserve near Amboasary, River Mandrare, on mud, 19.X.1970, 7 exx ( BMNH), 1 ex ( ISEA); Tananarive, on mud by lake, 6–13.X.1970, 10 exx ( BMNH), 1 ex ( ISEA); Anjiro, beside stream, 21.X.1970, 1 ex ( BMNH); Moramanga, 1000–1200 m, 31.I–2.II.1993, J. Janak, 1 ex ( BMNH), 1 ex ( ISEA); Antananarivo, Sikora, 1 ex ( FMNH).

Redescription. Body. Length 2.6–3.0 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour dark brown; tergites VI–VII black, antennae brown with antennomeres 1–3 red, legs red.

Head circular in outline, convex; eyes large, strongly protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above longer than postocular region; surface of head without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and moderately dense. Antennae moderately long, extending to base of pronotum, slightly increasing in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomeres 4–8 longer than wide, antennomeres 9–10 as long as wide, antennomere 11 nearly coniform.

Pronotum quadrate, convex, lateral sides sinuately narrowed to obtuse hind angles; before base with relatively large transverse impression; surface without microsculpture; puncturation fine and moderately dense; pubescence at midline directed posteriorly in apical half and anteriorly in basal half.

Elytra subquadrate, at suture as long as pronotal length at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation minute, pinpricklike and moderately sparse.

Abdomen widened posteriorly, bases of tergites III–V each with deep transverse impression, first two impressions coarsely punctate, third impression smooth, impunctate; tergal puncturation minute, pinpricklike and sparse; surface without microsculpture.
