Material studied. Holotype: ♂: three labels: " 28.29S 152.23E NSW / Tooloom Scrub Floral / Res., rest area, 755m / Beaury SF, 23km W of / Urbenville, 16. Jun. / 1993 D.S.Chandler" [white, printed], "Berlesate ANIC 1647 / subtr. closed forest / rotten wood litter" [white, printed], " MICROSCYDMUS / (SCYDMOMICRUS) / tooloomensis m. / det. P. Jałoszyński, 2013 / HOLOTYPUS " [red, printed] ( ANIC). Paratype: ♂, three labels: " 28.24S 153.16E NSW / Mt. Warninng NP. 400m / 19 June 1993 / D.S.Chandler" [white, printed], "Berlesate ANIC 1655 / subtr. closed forest / rotten wood litter" [white, printed], and standard yellow " Paratypus " label ( ANIC).

Diagnosis. Male: body uniformly and moderately light brown; frons subtriangular but with weakly marked antero-median projection; punctures on head fine and shallow, relatively indistinct but still slightly more distinct than those on pronotum; BL <0.60 mm; pronotum nearly 1.1x broader than head, without ante-basal transverse groove; EI <1.40; aedeagus with darkly sclerotized and distinct internal armature containing elongate sub-basal bell-shaped structure distally connected to a pair of elongate sclerites. Females and their diagnostic characters unknown.

Description. Body of male ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 20 – 28 ) moderately convex, elongate and slender, with moderately long appendages, BL 0.512 mm; cuticle glossy, body uniformly light brown with slightly lighter appendages, vestiture yellowish.

Head ( Fig. 35 View FIGURES 29 – 37 ) subtriangular, broadest at eyes, HL 0.100 mm, HW 0.150 mm; tempora much shorter than eyes, moderately convergent postero-mesally; vertex weakly convex; frons subtriangular but with indistinct anteromedian projection. Eyes large but weakly projecting laterally from the head silhouette, coarsely faceted. Punctures on head dorsum sparse and small, indistinct; setae short, sparse and suberect. Antennae slender, AnL 0.280 mm; antennomeres I–II elongate, III–X transverse; XI as long as broad.

Pronotum in dorsal view oval, broadest between middle and anterior third, PL 0.175 mm, PW 0.163 mm; anterior and lateral margins rounded; posterior margin shallowly bisinuate; base of pronotum with two pairs of pits, internal pair small and deep, not connected by transverse impression, external pair larger but shallower. Punctures on pronotal disc fine and inconspicuous; setae sparse, thin, short and suberect.

Elytra oval, slightly more convex than pronotum, broadest near middle, EL 0.325 mm, EW 0.237 mm, EI 1.368; basal impressions short; elytral apices separately rounded. Punctures on elytral disc as fine as those on pronotum; setae short, sparse and suberect. Hind wings well developed, about twice as long as elytra.

Legs moderately long and slender, without modifications.

Aedeagus ( Figs. 58–59 View FIGURES 54 – 61 ) small, AeL 0.100 mm; stout with slender apical part, with distinct, dark internal armature containing elongate median structure with bell-shaped basal part and two rod-like sclerites extending distally; each paramere with one short apical seta and additionally with a tiny subapical seta.

Female. Unknown.

Distribution ( Fig. 62 View FIGURES 62 – 63 g). E Australia (NE New South Wales).

Etymology. Locotypical, after the Tooloom Scrub Floral Reserve, where the holotype specimen was collected.

Remarks. Microscydmus tooloomensis is the only known Australian Microscydmus with the internal pair of ante-basal pronotal pits not connected by transverse impression.
