Gonodactylus brevirostris Miers, 1884: 567 , pl. 52c ( Gonodactylus elegans in figure legend) [type locality: Providence Island , Seychelles].

Odontodactylus brevirostris .— Manning 1967: 22 –29, fig. 7 (part).— Michel 1970: 113 –122, 124, 125, figs 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, tab. 1 (“ 26 mm ” larva).— Poupin 1998: 34.—Ahyong 2002: 355, fig. 5; 2012b: 247.

Material examined. AUSTRAL ISLANDS: Tubuai Islands: MNHN IU- 2016-9514, 1 male postlarva (TL 28 mm), Arago Bank, 23°21.74'S, 150°43.87'W, 176–340 m, BENTHAUS stn DW 1979, 21 November 2002. GoogleMaps

Remarks. Odontodactylus brevirostris was reported from the Marquesas by Ahyong (2002a), based on postlarvae and adults, so its presence at the Austral Islands is not unexpected. The present postlarval O. brevirostris corresponds well to those from the Marquesas.

Distribution. Western Indian Ocean to the Hawaiian Islands, the Marquesas Islands and now from the Austral Islands.
