Distribution: China (CE, NO, SE, SW), Japan, Kampuchea, Korea, Russia (FE), Taiwan. [2a]

Hosts: Usually breeds in various species of Pinus (Pinaceae) , but also in other conifers including Tsuga (Pinaceae) , Chamaecyparis (Cupressaceae) and Cryptomeria (Taxodiaceae) (Nobuchi 1974). Recorded from Pinus luchuensis in Taiwan by Murayama (1934).

Biology: The biology of the two species of Orthotomicus found in Taiwan does not seem to have been investigated, but presumably resembles other species in the genus (e.g. Chararas 1962; Wood 1982).
