Porphyrochroa xavieri View in CoL sp. nov.

(Figs. 17a–i; 19g; 20)

Diagnosis: P. xavieri sp. nov. differs from all other studied species due to the presence of one posteroventral spine on basal region of mid tibia. Is closely related to P. simplex sp. nov. and P. manauara sp. nov., due to the presence of long dorsal setae on the basal mid tarsomere. It differs from the latter species due to the shape of the triangular epandrium.

Description. Male: body length 2.6 mm; wing length 2.6 mm.

Frons and face shiny brown. Frons slightly narrower than width of anterior ocellus, sides subparallel, with two proclinate setae. Face same width and slightly longer than frons. Proboscis light-yellow, length equal to height of head. Palpus brown, with one small almost apical seta. Ocellar tubercule with vitreous light-yellow ocellus; two proclinate ocellar setae; two postocellar setae. Antenna with scape and pedicel yellow and flagellum brown; scape and pedicel medially verticillate; flagellum about four times longer than scape and pedicel combined. Postcranium shiny brown, with distinct brown setae and gray pruinescence; one pair of convergent vertical setae; postocellar setae distinct, arranged in complete single series with dorsal setae stronger. Gena and postgena with setae brown to black and sparse gray pruinescence. Thorax shiny brown, with conspicuous postsutural gray pruinescence. Thoracic setae: 4 ktg; 4 sctl, larger internal pair; 2 aprn; 1 prepm; 1 pprn; 2 acr; 5 dc; 1 spal presut; 1 psut spal; 2 npl; 1 pal. Fore, mid and hind legs with coxae, trochanters, femora, and tibia yellow, tarsi brown; hind tibia and basal mid tarsomere with long dorsal setae, remaining distinct and short. Wing hyaline with apical spot and inconspicuous pterostigma; anal lobe wide ( Fig. 19 View FIGURE 19 g). Halter with pedicel yellow and knob brown. Abdomen brown, shiny (without apparent metallic luster, probably lost due to fixed in alcohol). Sternites shiny brown. Tergite 8 with lateral posterior projection (Fig. 17a); sternite 7 smaller than former ones (Fig. 17b) and inclined in lateral view (Fig. 17c); sternite 8 wide (Fig. 17b). Terminalia: epandrium approximately triangular, with setae posteriorly and with projection in inferior half (Figs. 17c; e). Elongate cercus in lateral view (Fig. 17d); with internal ventral downward projection in dorsal view (Fig. 17h). Hypandrium with differentiated apex and with five setae in posterior part (Figs. 17d; g); ejaculatory apodeme with three projections in anterior view (Fig. 17f); subepandrial sclerite with base longer than arms (Fig. 17i).

Female: Unknown.

Distribution: BRAZIL (Amazonas).

Type material: Holotype male: BRAZIL, Amazonas, Presidente Figueiredo, BR-174, Km 113 / 05– 09.iv.1993, F. F. Xavier / Holotype male Porphyrochroa xavieri ( INPA). Paratypes: BRAZIL, Amazonas, Manaus, PDBFF-WWF, Proj.: Bert Klein, i.1985, Malaise, Reserva 1112 (1 male, INPA); iii.1986, Malaise, Reserva 1208 (1 male, INPA); v.1985, Malaise, Reserva 1301 (4 male, INPA); iv.1986 (1 male, INPA); v.1986 (6 male, MZUSP); vi.1986 (1 male, MPEG).

Holotype condition: ocellar setae, postocellar and vertical setae broken; hind legs lost; left wing mounted on microslide with Canada balsam; abdomen within microvial containing glycerin. Microslide and microvial pinned attached to the specimen.

Variation: six specimens light-brown; body width varied from 2.6 to 3.1 mm.

Etymology: the specific name is in honor of the INPA technician, Francisco F. Xavier Filho.
