Sogana clara View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 , 7–9 View FIGURES 7 – 15 , 19 View FIGURES 16 – 23 , 24, 28–31 View FIGURES 24 – 35 , 44 View FIGURES 36 – 47 , 45)

Description. Length (from apex of vertex to tip of fore wings): ď 8.3–8.5 mm, Ψ 9.3 mm.

General color light yellowish. Vertex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with three black spots at apex, the median one roundish; lateral areas suffused with fuscous, central disc with a pair of brownish spots near posterior margin; median carina yellowish-brown, sublateral and lateral carinae orange, lateral margins brownish. Frons ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with 5 reddish transverse bands. Gena ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with one brown patch. Carinae on frons, clypeus, pronotum and mesonotum orange to yellowish-brown. Fore wings ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ) pale yellowish; veins yellowish, apical cells with blackish suffusion. Legs pale yellowish; fore femora, long stripes on hind femora, and apices and bases of tibiae brownish.

Vertex with anterior margin projected at an obtuse angle in dorsal view, lateral areas distinctly depressed; median carina nearly percurrent. Frons with median carina thick and wide. Fore wings ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ) with 14 apical cells and 7 subapical cells, two middle anteapical cells equally long. Spines of hind legs: hind tibia laterally 3, distally 7, basitarsus distally 8–9.

Proportions. Vertex with ratio of median length to the widest breadth 0.82:1, frons with ratio of median length to the widest breadth 1.49:1, pronotum with ratio of width to median length 4.93:1, pronotum and mesonotum together medially about 2 times as long as median length of vertex, fore wings with ratio of length to maximum breadth 3.49:1.

Male genitalia ( Figs. 24, 28–31 View FIGURES 24 – 35 , 44, 45 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ) with pygofer relatively broad and short, posterior margin broadly caudad expanded subapically in lateral view ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 24 – 35 ). Anal tube ( Fig. 24, 28 View FIGURES 24 – 35 ) with apical ventral margin slightly bent ventrad in lateral view. Gonostylus ( Figs. 24, 30, 31 View FIGURES 24 – 35 ) in lateral view about 3.54 times as long as broad. Aedeagus ( Figs. 29 View FIGURES 24 – 35 , 44, 45 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ) with three processes: two anteriorly directed lamellate processes arising from right side with the longer one spiral-like and produced at apical fifth and the shorter one produced at apical third; and the third posteriorly directed process slender, originating from ventral side; endosomal process digitiform; phallotrema exposed subapically on left side ( Fig. 44 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ); periandrium ( Figs. 24 View FIGURES 24 – 35 , 44, 45 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ) with a long, tongue-shaped process protruding backward from ventral apex.

Material examined. Holotype ď, LAOS: Vientiane Prov., Ban Van Eue, 15.VIII.1967 “native collector” ( BPBM). Paratypes. LAOS: 1ď, Vientiane Prov., Ban Van Eue, 30.IX.1967 “native collector”; 1Ψ, Vientiane Prov., Ban Van Eue, malaise trap, 15.II.1966 “native collector”, Rondon-Bishop Mus. Collection) (both in BPBM).

Etymology. This new species is named for its general bright color.

Distribution. Laos (Vientiane).

Remarks. This species can be distinguished from other known species in the genus by its general bright color and the male genitalic structure ( Figs. 24, 28–31 View FIGURES 24 – 35 , 44, 45 View FIGURES 36 – 47 ). In external appearance, this species is similar to S. extrema Melichar, 1914 from Burma (Tenasserim) and China (Chekiang), but differs from the latter in the vertex ( Fig. 7 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with anterior margin projected at an obtuse angle in dorsal view and the median black spots at apex roundish, the frons ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 7 – 15 ) with median carina thick and the reddish transverse bands wider, and the fore wings with Cu1 forked more basally and with 14 apical cells and 7 subapical cells ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16 – 23 ).
