Type locality. Sicily, Messina, Nebrodi Mountains , Caronia, Contrada Onofrio ( Fig. 239 View FIGURES 239–242 ) .

Diagnosis. Small size Solariola (TL: 2.95–3.05 mm; BL: 2.48–2.55 mm) belonging to the doderoi group with quite slender body shape. Within the species group, it is recognizable: small size, reddish–brown cuticle, short rostrum (RL: 0.40–0.43 mm, RW: 0.30–0.31 mm, RL/RW: 1.33–1.39) and elytra less elongate. Interocular pit not visible. Mesorostrum carinae divergent to sides. Forehead convex (FW/MW: ratio 2.40–2.40). Submentum and partially the mesorostrum with thick and elongate pappolepida. Antennae elongate and thin (SL: 0.55– 0.55 mm, FL: 0.75– 0.75 mm, SL/FL: 0.73–0.73). Pronotum slightly elongate (PL: 0.63–0.65 mm, PW: 0.60–0.63 mm, PL/PW: 1.03–1.06) with echinopappolepida at base. Elytra sub-oval to sides, dorsally vaulted (EL: 1.75–1.88 mm, EW: 0.89–0.95 mm, EL/EW: 1.97–1.98).

Holotype description. Female. See Figs 13, 13a, 13b, 13c, 13d, 13e View FIGURES 13–13 . Body shape elongate and sub-oval ( TL: 2.95 mm and BL: 2.48 mm). Red-brownish cuticle.

Rostrum short (RL: 0.40 mm, RW: 0.30 mm, RL/RW: 1.33), conical to sides with expanded pterygium. Epistome absent. Mesorostrum carinae divergent to sides. Submentum covered by yellowish pappolepida, also visible around mesorostrum. Interocular pit not visible. Forehead convex (FW/MW: ratio 2.40). Vestigial eyes convex and just visible.

Antennae thin and elongate (SL: 0.55 mm, FL: 0.75 mm, SL/FL: 0.73); AS ratio: 7.6.4.4. 3.3.11. Scape clubbed, slightly more robust than funicle, curved at proximal third and progressively thickening towards apex. Funicle long and thin; all antennal segments with short and thin setae. Club three-segmented, compact-oval, in length twice the width, densely covered by thin setae.

Pronotum slightly elongate (PL: 0.63 mm, PW: 0.60 mm, PL/PW: 1.06), wider in the middle and with echinopappolepida at base. Scutellum visible.

Elytra elongate, sub-oval to sides, dorsally vaulted (EL: 1.75 mm, EW: 0.89 mm, EL/EW: 1.97), wider in the middle with convex suture. Humeri rounded. Striae with 14–15 evident punctures, catenulate, quite deep. Interstriae quite convex with short and raised setae. Elytral declivity <60 degrees.

Legs quite slim and elongate with femora little clubbed. Protibia with five acute spines on inner edge and an evident mucro on inner apical angle. Protibia slightly sinuous on inner edge and straight in side view. Metatibia and mesotibia straight in side view. All tibia with noticeable apical comb.

Tarsal segment 1 short, conical; segment 2 short and transverse; segment 3 very bilobed; all segments with thin golden setae. Onychium curved, robust and short with one short claw.

Male genitalia. Unknown.

Sexual dimorphism. Male unknown.

Paratype variability. Paratype is similar to the holotype but differs in size.

Distribution. See Figs. 221, 221a. Sicilian endemic. Known from Caronia, Contrada Onofrio locality in Nebrodi Mountains.

Etymology. This species is named after Sabella (Giorgio), collector of the type specimens, eminent specialist in Coleoptera Staphylinidae Pselaphinae , in appreciation and gratitude for his collaboration in our study on Peritelini .

Ecology and Phenology. Specimens of S. sabellai were collected by pitfall traps placed in an oak forest in November, at 350 meters of elevation.

Main soil type. Chromic Cambisol ( European Soil Data Centre; Panagos et al. 2012) .

Reproduction. Known from holotype and paratype females only.
