Compterosmittia procera sp. n.

( Figs 13–17 View FIGURES 13 – 17 )

Type material. Holotype male, (BDN No. A 13I90), China: Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou City, Changhua County, Qingliangfeng National Nature Reserve, 30°17’50’’N, 119°07’01’’E, 15.v.2012, 1100 m a.s.l., R. Guo, Malaise trap.

Diagnostic characters. The adult male of the new species can be distinguished from known species of the genus by having a slender acute anal point, pseudospurs on ta3 and ta4 of mid and hind legs, a bilobed inferior volsella and a flat megaseta not dentate.

Etymology: From Latin procerus, slender, referring to the slender anal point.

Description. Adult male (n = 1).

Total length 2.20 mm. Wing length 1.33 mm. Total length/wing length 1.66. Wing length/length of profemur 2.55.

Coloration. Head, thorax, leg and abdomen yellow.

Head. AR 0.75. Antenna with 13 flagellomeres, ultimate flagellomeres 285 μm long. Temporal setae 6, including 2 inner verticals; 3 outer verticals and 1 postorbital. Clypeus with 4 setae. Tentorium, stipes and cibarial pump as in Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13 – 17 . Tentorium 115 μm long, 23 μm wide. Stipes 74 μm long, 11 μm wide. Palpomere lengths (in μm): 20, 35, 83, 70, 105. Length ratio of palpomeres 5/3 1.27.

Wing ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 13 – 17 ). Anal lobe reduced. VR 1.26. Costal extension 100 μm long. Brachiolum with 1 seta. All veins bare. Cu1 moderately sinuous. Squama bare.

Thorax ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13 – 17 ). Antepronotum without seta. Dorsocentrals 6; acrostichals 12; prealars 2. Scutellum with 2 setae.

Legs. Spur of fore tibia 33 μm long; spurs of mid tibia 20 μm and 15 μm long; spurs of hind tibia 35 μm and 15 μm long. Hind tibial comb with 9 spines. Pseudospurs present on ta3 and ta4 of mid and hind legs, 10 and 13 μm long. Width of fore tibia at apex 23 Μm, of mid tibia 25 Μm, of hind tibia 25 Μm. Lengths (in μm) and proportions of legs as in Table 3 View TABLE 3 .

Hypopygium ( Figs 16–17 View FIGURES 13 – 17 ). Anal point slender, with pointed apex, 53 μm long, 20 μm wide at base, with 8 strong lateral setae. Laterosernite IX with 3 setae. Phallapodeme 63 μm long. Transverse sternapodeme 65 μm long. Gonocoxite 140 μm long. Gonostylus 70 μm long. Megaseta 5 μm long, flat, not dentate. Inferior volsella composed of anterior bare lobe and posterior rounded lobe. Virga weak, inverted U-shaped. HR 2.00. HV 3.14.

Remarks. The new species resembles C. berui Mendes, Andersen et Saether, 2004 in the shape of the anal point, but it can be separated from the latter species on the basis of following characters: (1) pseudospurs present on mid and hind ta3, ta4 of C. procera , but absent in the latter species; (2) lower LR1 (0.72) in C. procera , whereas LR1 (0.87–0.94) higher in the latter species; (3) antepronotum of C. procera without seta, but seta(e) present in the latter species.

Female and immatures unknown.
