Cornips Razowski View in CoL , gen. n. ( Figs 10, 11, 58, 59)
Type-species: Tortrix dryocausta Meyrick, 1938 . Institut des Parcs Nationaux du Congo belge 14: 6; pl. 1, fig. 5.
Diagnosis. This genus is distinct by its autapomorphic transtilla which has a pair of strongly sclerotised curved processes. Another autapomorphy is the presence of a tooth medially on the sacculus.
Etymology. The generic name refers to the processes on the transtilla; the first part of the genus name is derived from the Latin corn ū, “horn”, and the second part, ips, refers to the word ‘worm’ in Greek. Gender masculine.
Description. Venation similar to Choristoneura .
Male genitalia ( Figs. 58, 59). Uncus club-shaped; socius small; arm of gnathos strong, terminal plate large; valva subtriangular, membranous dorsally, sacculus with submedian thorn; transtilla lateral or submedian curved process, continuous medially; juxta simple, fairly large plate; aedeagus small to moderate, simple, extending ventroposteriorly; caulis broad, short; cornuti rather long, deciduous.
Biology not known.
Distribution. Democratic Republic of Congo.
Remarks. In addition to the type-species, two other species are included: Cornips agelasta ( Bradley, 1965) , comb. n. ( Bradley 1965: 86, figs. 6, 76) ( Niphothixa ), described from the Ruwenzori Mts., situated in the border area between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, and Cornips gravidspinatus , sp. n., described below.
