ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 18.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Columbia [ Colombia ( South America )]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 specimen, syntype (sex not determinable, covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extraeuropea, Fam. Tachinidei - Gen. Dejeania a Belvosia ): Histricia [sic!] nigroscutata Rnd. , Colombia / M. Zool. N° 11331.

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Guimarães 1971: 41, Nihei 2016: 915, O’Hara et al. 2020: 765).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 18) described Hystricia nigroscutata without specifying the number , the sex or the length of the specimens but providing specific characters for the male. Costa (1866: 32) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “664”. We also found a syntype in this study.
