ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1859b: 161 (key), 163 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: in collibus et planitie agri parmensis [Parmese hills and plains ( Italy)]”.

TYPE MATERIAL: 2 ♂♂, syntypes (one missing right fore-leg) ( MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn / picipes Rnd. , ♂ / 591; 1 ♀, syntype (missing mid- and left hind-legs) ( MZUF: Box 12): Phorocera Mgn / picipes Rnd. , ♀ / 591; 1 ♂, syntype (head, thorax and abdomen partially eaten by dermestids, missing left mid- and hind-legs) ( MSNC: Box DIPTERA Ex collezione Rondani - I): Phorocera Desv. picipes Rndn. 56 ♂ Parma / Coll. Rondani, scatola n° 1, posiz. E-11 / Museo di Storia Naturale Università di Pisa, Calci ( PI) ex collezione Rondani.

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Pseudoperichaeta palesoidea ( Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830) (Herting & Dely- Draskovits 1993: 202).

REMARKS: Rondani (1859b: 163) described both sexes of Phorocera picipes without specifying the exact number of specimens and not giving a range of lengths, but presumably from more than one specimen because he wrote: “ non infrequens [not rare]”. We found four syntypes in this study.
