ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1861c: 273 (key), 276 (description).

TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Italia boreali et media [in boreal (= northern) and central Italy]” (Rondani 1861: 276); Rondani (1861e: 129) gave “ in agro parmensi … in Etruria … et in pedemontio [Parmese territory … Etruria (= Tuscany) … and Piedmont ( Italy)]” .

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Cylindromyia pilipes ( Loew, 1844) ( Herting & Dely-Draskovits 1993: 429) .

REMARKS: Rondani (1861c: 276) described Ocyptera tincticornis without specifying either the number or the sex of the specimens and not giving a range of lengths. He later ( Rondani 1861e: 129) stated having both sexes that he had collected and that he had also received from F.M. Piccioli and L. Bellardi. We found 13 syntypes in this study.
