Tephritis diotidis Rondani, 1871
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1871b: 12.
TYPE LOCALITY: “ in Spanien und im südlichen Frankreich [in Spain and southern France]” ( Loew 1862b: 109) [type locality for Tephritis stictica Loew, 1862] .
TYPE MATERIAL: see Remarks.
CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Tephritis stictica Loew, 1862 ( Foote 1984: 134, Norrbom et al. 1999: 219).
REMARKS: Loew (1862c: 109) described Tephritis stictica from a specimen received from Dufour under the name Tephritis diotidis. Rondani (1871b: 12) suggested using the new substitute name Tephritis diotidis because of the information it gave about the larval biology. Tephritis diotidis was always considered as a synonym of Tephritis stictica Loew, 1862 ( Becker 1905: 141, Hendel 1927: 195, Foote 1984: 134, Norrbom et al. 1999: 219). The type material for Tephritis diotidis will be the same as for the name it was proposed to replace, i. e., Tephritis stictica.
