ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 37.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Soria [ Syria]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♂, syntype (missing head, slightly covered with mold) ( MZUF: Box 72): Rincheterus [sic!] R. damascenus R., Damas [= Damascus] / [no identification number ].

CURRENT STATUS: junior synonym of Myopites inulaedyssentericae Blot, 1827 ( Foote 1984: 100, Norrbom et al. 1999: 169).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 37) described Rhyncheterus damascenus from just the male sex, without specifying the exact number of specimens, but giving a single measurement of length, from material received from E. Truqui. We found one syntype in this study.
