Syrphus columbianus Rondani, 1863

ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: 1863: 11.

TYPE LOCALITY: “ Columbia [ Colombia]” .

TYPE MATERIAL: 1 ♀, syntype (dirty, covered with mold) ( MZUN: Box Coll. entomol. extra-europea, Fam. Sirfidei - Gen. Xylota a Conops ): Syrphus columbianus Rnd. , Colombia / M. Zool. N° 11266 / ♂ [sic!].

CURRENT STATUS: valid species ( Thompson et al. 1976: 39).

REMARKS: Rondani (1863: 11) described Syrphus columbianus from just the female sex, without specifying either the exact number or the length of the specimens, from material received from M. Spinola. Costa (1866: 32) listed a single MZUN specimen numbered “643”. We also found one syntype in this study.
